New Article Published for Ezine Articles

I had my newest article "Trying To Find The Zone At 62" published today on Ezine Articles.
If you would like to take a gander go to http://ezinearticles.com/6785228.
I also have four other articles that can be read. They are 6270632, 6165572, 6153228, and 6202470.
They are all short articles that cover different subjects from hunting, fishing, cancer, snowmachine excursions, and running.

Had a terrific thunderstorm tonight with bolt lightning, high winds, and hail. Although we have very little if any snow in the mountains; this is still the end of December. What a strange weather year.
If you like my articles, please checkout my website at http://www.mccainadventures.com/.
There you will find more info about me, my books that are available, and some picture galleries to view.
My book, Alaskan Adventure: Stories of Our Bush Teaching Experience is available as a Kindle book for a nominal fee of $2.99.

Thank you for viewing my blog site.

Trivia Contest for High School Classmates

I recently held a Trivia contest for my High School classmates. The person who could answer the most questions correctly won a set of my books. That would be my Alaskan Adventure book and the four children's books.
The first question actually gave them a choice of three questions to choose from. Then I asked eleven questions about things that happened during our high school years.
The last two questions they had to go to my website, http://www.mccainadventures.com/, and look at the picture galleries to answer.
Boy, I can tell you we forget a lot over the years, even with the help of the class yearbook.
It was fun an we actually had two gals tie for the win. Maybe I should have a Kansas City playoff or a sudden death question.......Nah, they are both winners.

Check Off One of the Bucket List Numbers!

My wife, Deb, and I spent this past week in Wasilla, Alaska. We stayed at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast named the Lake Lucille Bed and Breakfast.
Rates were fantastic, the rooms beautiful, and our hostess, Carol, is the best!!

While we were there we went to the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood. This is a small town south of Anchorage. We rode the tram up to the top of the mountain and Paraglided down to the bottom. Our pilots were Drew and Wil. What super guys!! and a great company to work with. Check this one off the list.

While we were doing this there was a running race going on. The race lasted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. There were two goals for this race: be the fastest one to run from the resort at the bottom to the top in the quickest time and to run up and ride the tram down as many times as you could in the alloted time.
One hundred and fifty diehard souls were running this race. Last year the fastest time was 25 minutes and the most completed "laps" was 25. Wow!!! Hats off to all of you!

My wife and I are looking forward to coming back next June to run in the Mayors Race in Anchorage. It has a marathon, Marathon Relay, Half-Marathon, and a five miler. The race is run on the Saturday that is closest to the Summer Solstice. Number two off the bucket list????

What a beautiful state to visit. It also helps that my son and grandson live their :}

One last question if you have paraglided before do you like roller coasters? This is what Drew asked me just before we started spinning like the water going down the drain....Yahooooooeeeeee  :}

To Plagiarize is to Steal

While doing some background information checks on an article that I had written and published; I went to Google to research one reference that I had quoted.
To my amazement part of my published article appeared. Some of my vocabulary had been grossly altered and some of the paragraphs rearranged.
But the names of my characters were still the same, and the places visited were identical. It was about one-third of my article.
It had been added to parts of two other authors articles.
With some research, some email letters written, and some good old technology detective work the thief was tracked down.
The culprit, after the host website looked into their goings on, was found to have committed many rule violations. All of their work has been dropped from this website on a permanent basis.
There still is the threat of legal proceedings.
Check your work(s) on a regular basis. You worked hard to produce your published material. Don't let some thief who has no morals end up getting any credit at all for your genius.

Personal Accomplishment

Today, my wife and I competed in two separate running events. We had joined a community running group and recently completed the 12 week program. My wife set a personal record in the 10K run and finished 2nd in her age group. I ran a half marathon,  set a personal record, and finished 4th in my age group.
What a great feeling to successfully finish a program and achieve the goals you had set at the beginning of the program. It was such a success we signed up for the next 12 week session!
It doesn't take much to get off the couch, meet new friends who look out for each other, and achieve personal and group goals. All communities have these types of walking and running groups. You do not have to be an elite runner. Try it-It your Life.

Stealing Someone Elses Article for Your Gain--Plagiarism

I did a search on Google .com today for information about an article that I had written earlier this year.
To my amazement someone had taken one of my articles, grossly changed some of the words, changed the progression of the paragraphs, added it to a couple of other articles from some other author and printed them as theirs.
Someone needs to look up the definition for plagiarism.
I guess copyright laws don't mean anything. If I can track down this low life they will hear my thoughts about such actions. Fuming!

Goodbye to an Athlete,Student, and Father

Twenty two years ago I checked one of my wrestler athletes into a mental health urgent care treatment facility for severe depression.
This past Saturday I went to his Memorial Service.  He had committed suicide through a senseless act of shooting himself a week ago.
He left behind a wonderful wife and a very young daughter; who will only know her father through pictures and stories.
From all of the eulogies that were given, it was crystal clear that he would go way out of his way to make sure his friends needs were always met, he always had a smile on his face, and his family was all he talked about and had in his heart.
Darren Lee, you will be missed by all that knew you, and the world is missing out from never have known you.

Walking through a paperback to a Kindle transformation.....Ahhhhh!

I have decided to try and change my four children's books into ebooks for Kindle(Ipad,Ipod, etc).
I have tried all day to change one of them over by following the provided directions but everytime I look at it on the Kindle Previewer I have a few words on the right side that don't make it onto the screen.
Have changed margins, have used font size 8, have used the font #1 on the previewer.
I know I am not that technology oriented but I developed a website, linked things together.....I don't want to pay when I know it can't be that difficult.
What does Johnnie Depp say in the Pirates of the Caribbean...Arhhhhhh!

Spring in Idaho...

I love it...wait five minutes and the weather will change. Trees all in bloom, sun is out, nice to go running outside....Whoops
Black cloud, hard rain, lightning, hail, and its supposed to snow in the valley tonight.
I guess I can be thankful we don't have very many tornados in Idaho.

I want to send out a warm bear hug to all those people in tornado alley back east. You folks have had a rough winter and spring. Parts of Alabama looked worse than Japan on the nightly news.

My sympathies go out to all the families that lost loved ones and property.

Easter Wishes

May the coming of Easter bring a renewal in all that you believe in.

I spent a beautiful morning running along our wonderful greenbelt.
It travels along the Boise river that runs through our great community.

The air was crisp, the sky was a magnificent blue with a slight breeze, and the sound of the river flowing at a quick pace due to the snowmelt kept my pulse at a quiet pace. I was deeply in tune with my surroundings today.

It is great to be alive.

Third Article Published...

Today I had my third article approved and published on both Articlesbase and Ezine.
The latest article, The Beauty and Risk of an Excursion into Mother Nature's Frontier, is about two educators that want to postpone classroom preparation to visit Alaska's great frontier for the day.
It is to bad that all types of plans can go astray.
This is another one of the stories that may be in Alaska Adventure: Stories of our Bush Teaching Experience. Check it out at http://www.mccainadventures.com/.  This book is also available as a Kindle eBook.

Great Company to Work With

I received an order of Alaska Adventure: Stories of our Bush Teaching Experience books from Create Space. This is a wonderful company to work with.
I sent them a picture of a production problem I thought they had made and then talked to them instantly on the telephone.
Since they have always been honest and straight forward with me I just wanted to let them know of the problem.
They are replacing the part of the order that was affected. I did not ask for this but they said sending out problem material is not what they are about.
Again GREAT Company to work with!

The StoryBook Bear Series...My Other Life

As an author I highly recommend Alaska Adventure: Stories of our Bush Teaching Experience but I also recommend the following series of three short childrens books: The StoryBook Bear: The Awakening, The Storybook Bear: My keeper of Dreams, and the newest one of the three My Little Bear.
These three childrens books were inspired after watching a young child conversing and interacting with a teddybear.
The stories start with a young child who then progresses into a young college age student and then eventually becomes a young mother of her own child who asks "When can I have a bear of my own?"
Also available is a short Christmas story called A Christmas Tale: The Precious Gift. A heart warming short story that tests the old saying "Do You Believe?
http://www.mccainadventures.com/ list all five of these books and where they are available.

Losing to a Bear....

......we did not find any caribou, so we turned the boat around and headed back down the river to retrieve the moose we had killed and hung up to cool earlier that morning.
As we came around the bend we saw a huge bear with half of the rib cage section in his mouth heading into the brush.
We quickly landed the boat on the shore. I was told to stay by the boat and protect the other hunters backs. At the time I did not know what they meant.
The other four hunters quickly entered the brush, tracking the bear as they went.
I could hear and follow their direction of travel by all the noise they were making.
It became very quiet, except for the sound of the river behind me. Then all at once I heard the other hunters yelling and shouting. Then it became quiet again.
My heart was pounding, and I was actually breathing very rapidly. What was going on........

Just a few sentences from Alaskan Adventure:Stories of our Bush Teaching Experience. You van find it http://www.mccainadventures.com/.

My Website........

My website is http://www.mccainadventures.com/.
Is there anyone out there that would like to take a look and make some comments about the site?
I would be pleased to view your comments.
I actually learned quite a lot by setting up this site and I had a lot of fun also.
It is interesting, to a "newbie", to learn what things like buttons, links, blocks, etc really are.

Good company to work with....

I ordered some of my childrens books from my self-publishing company,CreateSpace, to sell to friends.
When the books arrived today I opened the box they were packed in.
The company had packed them very well. The books were stacked three pointed in one direction and then three in another direction.
I had ordered a certain number of each of the four books.
I noticed that seven out of ten books in one title area had a deep groove on the spine. One book of another title had the same groove.
I was not going to be able to sell these in this condition.
I wrote the customer support of Create Space an e-mail and sent them a picture of the groove.
As I sent the email a pop-up came on the screen asking me if I wanted them to call me. I clicked yes.
They called me immediately. They were looking at the picture and stated that this could not have happened during shipping because of the way the books were packaged.
They felt it had to have happened during the printing of the books.
I was informed that they would replace all of the books and ship them to me by 2nd day air.
What a super company to work with!
